WagonR Electric Latest Update

The increase in demand for electric vehicles in the hatchback segment has resulted in almost all manufacturers come up with electric car versions. Maruti Suzuki would be launching the electric vehicle version of the famous hatchback Wagon R. The new Wagon R Electric Vehicle exteriors would feature new projector headlamps, new radiator grille with chrome surrounds and clear lens tail lamps. The interiors would feature dual-tone scheme, and a new multi-information instrument cluster giving display of the status of battery charge and distance coverage with charge availability. The safety features of collapsible steering column, fog lamps, child safety door lock and anti-theft system would be offered as standard equipment.

Suzuki WagonR electric is an all-electric version of the Japanese WagonR, which will go on sale in India in 2020. In its regular petrol and hybrid version, it is already being sold in the carmaker’s home market since 2017. Maruti Suzuki has indicated that the electric version of the WagonR could cost upwards of Rs 9 lakh in India.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV Engine & Transmission

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Electric Vehicle would be propelled by an electric motor with a power output of 50 kW. The overall power and torque would depend upon the final specifications at the time of launch. Automatic transmission would be used for smooth variation and transmission of power and torque on varying road conditions.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV Braking and Safety

The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV braking system will have ventilated disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. The energy-absorbing body structure with side impact beams will absorb the collision impacts, and safety features of dual front airbags and ABS with EBD would be offered as options. The collapsible steering column, front fog lamps, security alarm system and computerized anti-theft system would be featured as a standard.

The Wagon R Electric Vehicle performance would be enhanced with the improved vehicle dynamics and balancing with the changes interiors for accommodating battery needed for propelling the vehicle. The power steering with a turning circle radius of 4.8 m, and smooth variation of power and torque assure a pleasant experience of long drives. The suspension system with McPherson struts at the front and isolated trailing link suspension absorb maximum road shocks, keeping the occupants at comfort.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV Mileage

The Wagon R Electric Vehicle average distance that can be covered per charge would range at 90 km per full charge. The overall distance coverage per charge would depend upon kerb weight, maintenance of the battery and charging system. In general, a mileage of 60 to 80 km per full charge can be expected.

 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV interiors will feature dual-tone interior scheme, accentuated instrument panel, accentuated door trims and premium fabric upholstery for the seats. The convenience features of glove box with lock, bottle holders on each door and spacious boot can be expected. The comfort features of manual air conditioning and entertainment system with steering-mounted controls assure excellent quality of entertainment on the go.

The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV exteriors will feature new projector headlamps, new radiator grille with chrome surrounds, body-colored bumpers and stylish contours on the bonnet. The side profile will have ORVMs in body color, fender side indicators, B-pillar blackout and new alloy wheels. At the rear, the wide opening tail gate, new clear lens tail lamps, roof-mounted antenna and chrome badging of electric vehicle will give it a distinctive stance on road.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV Competitors

The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV will compete with the likes of Mahindra E2O and Tata Electric vehicle. The spacious interiors, long range drivability and excellent service back up would be boosting factors for this model.
